I often report on events involving others, but this time I am going to plug an event of my own. Saturday, May 10, 2010 immediately after the business meeting of the Tunkhannock Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution which is scheduled for 1PM, I am presenting a slide show entitled "Baskets of America" at the DAR Room, Wyoming County Historical Society Building, corner of Harrison and Bridge Streets, Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania.
The show will feature historic regional and cultural American Basketry styles and will introduce participants to the basics of recognition and appreciation of various American basketry traditions. I hope to welcome you there.

John Garrett at Fuller Craft Museum
Contemporary basket artist and member of the National Basketry Organization, John Garrett is scheduled to teach two workshops this fall at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts.
The "Working with Wire" class Saturday, October 9th, 2010 will explore using wire in textile/fiber constructions by itself and with other materials. The class will learn how to ply wire on itself and with various materials. From these elements you will explore building structures that can remain two dimensional or become three dimensional forms.
John will lead a second class "Using a Rigid Grid: Hardware Cloth" on Sunday, October 10, 2010. He will discuss the preparation of the rigid hardware cloth grid for art work (cleaning, cutting and painting) and introduce students to some of the many things you can do with it. Both flexible and rigid elements can be combined with it.
You can take advantage of a special offer - Register for both of Garrett’s workshops for a special price.
While you are there visit Caravan: An installation by John Garrett, which will continue through March 27, 2011.
